First Aid
Note: If you have particular medical needs (i.e asthma, allergies, diabetes, etc.) you MUST carry your own equipment/supplies to cater for this. Please consult your doctor as to whether it will be safe for you to take part and use these medications during the event.
Note: This First Aid Kit is intended to supplement your own First Aid supplies in an emergency.
Contents of First Aid Kit
(Kits replenished by St Johns Ambulance each year)
- 1 x Light Support Conforming Bandage (7.5cm x 1.5m)
- 1 x Roll of Surgical Tape (2.5cm x 9m)
- 1 x Sterile Non-Adherent Dressing (7.5cm x 20cm)
- 2 x Sterile Non-Adherent Dressings (7.5cm x 7.5cm)
- 1 x Sterile Gauze Swab (7.5cm x 7.5cm)
- 1 x Sterile Combine Dressing (10cm x 20cm)
- 4 x Alcohol Wipes
- 1 x Notepad
- Various shape adherent dressings (ie, band aids)
- 2 x Latex Gloves
- 1 x Triangular Bandage
- 1 x Space Blanket
- 1 x Bag of Safety Pins
- 3 x Plastic Bags (for biohazardous waste)
- 1 x Tweezers
- 1 x First Aid scissors
It is a requirement of your entry into Inward Bound that at least one (1) member of your team is capable of administering First Aid. If none of your team members have valid first aid certifications, you must register for ONE of the St John’s Wilderness First Aid Courses organised by the IB Committee in the weeks leading up to the race. As your coaches about how to enrol for this course.
Note: No compression bandage is supplied in this First Aid kit. To administer First Aid treatment to a snakebite, your team must carry two compression bandages (part of Team Mandatory Equipment). They MUST be marked with the words “COMPRESSION BANDAGE”.
